British brooders, Foals, are perfectly wild yet refined, befitting their animalistic name in their slick delivery of heavier upbeat post-punk. They played the Red Bull Sound Space without a preceding interview and it almost made their performance that much more perfect, the sometimes stoic quintet of Yannis Philippakis, Jack Bevan, Edwin Congreave, Jimmy Smith, and Water Gervers working together in a magical synchronicity that seemed like it needed to be tapped from a place of quiet introspection.

The band played tunes like “Total Life Forever,” “My Number,” “Late Night,” and “Inhaler” seamlessly and it was clear that Foals were in supreme shape thanks to their recent United States tour. In fact, their performance at the Red Bull Sound Space was their last before they flew back to England. “It’s a nice way to leave the country,” confessed Philippakis. More like, it’s a nice way for Foals to leave us—with a teaser of things to come.
