KROQ Presents U2 at the Rose Bowl May 20th with The Lumineers

"The Joshua Tree. Live. Every song. Every show."

U2 will be coming to the Rose Bowl on Saturday, May 20th with special guest The Lumineers. The show was announced as part of their Joshua Tree tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the band’s 5th studio album.

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, January 17th at 10am via Livenation.com.

The band posted a video on Christmas Day promising a “big year for the U2 group” with the release of Songs of Experience (the follow-up to 2014’s Songs of Innocence), as well as some “very special” Joshua Tree shows. Those shows will take the band through North America and Europe, including their first-ever US festival headlining performance at Bonnaroo.

“It seems like we have come full circle from when The Joshua Tree songs were originally writtten, with global upheaval, extreme right wing politics and some fundamental human rights at risk,” reflects The Edge. “To celebrate the album – as these songs seem so relevant and prescient of these times too – we decided to do these shows, it feels right for now. We’re looking forward to it.”

“Recently I listened back to The Joshua Tree for the first time in nearly 30 years,” adds Bono. “It’s quite an opera. A lot of emotions which feel strangely current, love, loss, broken dreams, seeking oblivion, polarisation… all the greats… I’ve sung some of these songs a lot… but never all of them. I’m up for it, if our audience is as excited as we are… it’s gonna be a great night. Especially when we play at home. Croke Park.. it’s where the album was born, 30 years ago.”

  1. So, who in their right mind, thought The Phlegmineers were a worthy opening act? is this a Make A Wish idea for one of it’s members. That “lead whiner” and pathetic haiku puker? This band is awful. J.Lawrence can do no wrong except for patronizing one of their “songs”.
I have been a fan of U2 before the hit with WAR, Joshua Tree is one of my favorite albums of all time. I even played it driving through Joshua Tree.
That is all ruined. Damaged by the association with these less than remedial hacks. Do people even listen to and read the crayon scrawled lyrics this mess vomits on the airwaves?
They should be playing at Trump’s inauguration as representatives of the mentally disabled voter base that actually voted for Trump.

  2. Just as the Phlegmineers were fading from playlists, not fast enough, we get subjected to their noise pollution until this tour is over! The juggernaut that once was U2 has now definitely been sunk due this association with this marketing lyme disease tick that is the Lumineers.
