Green Day’s Billie Joe Pulls Fans on Stage to Finish Songs at Almost Acoustic Christmas

Billie Joe tapped audience members to finish two songs.

During Green Day’s headlining performance during Sunday night’s KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas at the Forum, Billie Joe Armstrong either actually forgot or feigned memory loss… Regardless, the singer tapped audience members to finish two songs.

Just three songs into their already lively set, Armstrong tapped a young fan named Katie to help him sing “Know You’re Enemy,” from the band’s 2009 album, 21st Century Breakdown.

Later midway through the set, Cynthia was spotted by Armstrong and pulled up onstage to sing their 1994 smash, “Longview.”

Cynthia phoned The Kevin & Bean Show to give her account of the event. The excited Inglewood resident explained she stood outside the venue for hours waiting for the doors to open so she could be right at the foot of the stage. Knowing the band would eventually play “Longview,” she had crafted a small sign that read, “I Know The Words.” Cynthia explain that much to her delight, the band did play the song. As she heard Mike Dirnt launch into the bass-line and Billie flubs the first line of the tune, she held up the sign. “Billie saw it,” she says, still barely able to grasp what happened next.

Cynthia not only hopped up on stage when asked, but commanded the microphone like she’d done it before. “The first song that I ever played live in middle school was Green Day’s song so I was just channeling everything and it was the most amazing moment of my life. It was amazing.”

When asked if she was surprised the band let her finish the entire song, she said, “No, not really. I think I blacked out for a moment.”
