Tame Impala Get Pelted with Pillows

By Amanda Wicks

French listeners sure have a different way of expressing their approval. When Tame Impala played in Lyons, France on Monday (July 4) listeners threw pillows onstage to campaign for an encore.

Théâtres Romains de Fourvière, where Tame Impala was scheduled to perform, handed out cushions for patrons to sit on during the show. Apparently it’s tradition for listeners to throw those cushions at the stage if they like what they’re hearing (via NME).

Tame Impala posted video of the incident. In the caption, the band stated they had something like 4,000 pillows thrown at them. Even during the barrage, they admirably managed to keep playing.

In their second post, it’s unclear whether or not Tame Impala was aware what took place was a good thing. “Crowd standin there all guilty like a puppy dog sittin next to a pile of poo,” they wrote. Rest assured, a pillow to the face is a sign of love. 4,000 is a sign of respect.
