10 Things To Do If You’re Not At Coachella

So you’re not going to Coachella.  And you’ve probably  heard your friends planning which bands they’ll want to see, how they’re only eating celery because they’re on a strict “Coachella diet,” and seen all the festival wear they’ve purchased.  But don’t worry – you too can still have a great weekend!

So ladies, don’t put away your jean cut offs just yet.  And gentlemen, keep that sleeveless tank out.  Because here’s a list of things to do in Los Angeles and surrounding areas during Coachella!

Localchella April 8th – May 10th

From the masterminds behind Coachella also comes Localchella, a series of local shows and live performances from some of your favorite artists – without having to drive down to Indio!

Beginning April 8th and lasting until May 10th, music lovers can see bands that will be playing at Coachella, like Haim, Foster the People, Ellie Goulding, and more!  To see the complete schedule, click HERE.

Long Beach Grand Prix – April 11th-13th

Watch drivers compete in 7 seven different auto races at the 40th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach!  Enjoy the scenic atmosphere as cars zip by in Downtown Long Beach, and enjoy dining, vendors, free concerts, and more!  Also racing are celebrity drivers, including Top Gear USA‘s Rutledge Wood, Nick Wechsler of ABC’s Revenge,and actor Cole Hauser.

No-chella Music & Arts Festival – April 12th

Located at Pomona College, this festival brings the Coachella vibes, but only free and not as far as a drive!  Featuring food, vendors, local craft beers, and several local LA-area bands.  Free tacos to the first 150 in attendance too!

Los Angeles Times: Festival Of Books – April 12th & 13th

Listen up bookworms!  The Festival Of Books will be coming to the USC Campus, including a giant lineup of best-selling authors, chefs, and entertainers, including actor and writer B.J. Novak, Top Chef‘s Hugh Acheson, and celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, to name a few!  There will be exclusive conversations with authors, as well as many exhibitors and vendors to shop from.  To find out more and reserve seats for conversations, check out their website!

Los Angeles Avocado Festival  – April 13th

Located in the heart of Downtown LA, the Avocado Festival will include a variety of dishes celebrating the popular food – the avocado!  Free admission includes food and drinks from a variety of local vendors and restaurants, live entertainment, arts and crafts, games, and more!  So if you’re craving some really good guac, head on over!

Point Break Live – April 13th & 20th

Ever wondered what it would be like to see Johnny Utah shred the gnar right in front of you?  Well, prepare to have your dreams come true!  This live-action stage show brings the 1991 cult-classic film to life in front of an audience for two limited-engagements only! Be prepared to have suntan lotion smeared on you, water and fake blood sprayed, and wind blowing all around you, as the production really makes you feel like you are part of the story!  For tickets and more information, check out their website!

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks – April 18th, 19th, & 20th

That’s right! Our very own Los Angeles Dodgers are back and ready to take on a new season!  If you’re not making it to Weekend Two of Coachella, take a trip to Chavez Ravine and cheer on your boys in blue as they take on the D-backs! Also, Friday’s game includes after game fireworks, Saturday’s game is a Dodgers welcome mat giveaway, and Sunday’s game includes the popular Viva Los Dodgers celebrations!  For tickets, click HERE!

 

7th Annual Record Store Day – April 19th

Created to celebrate the awesomeness that is the independent record store, Record Store Day has become a world-wide holiday!  Vinyl collectors and music lovers alike can look forward to awesome in-store performances, and tons of special/limited-edition releases, exclusively available on Record Store Day!  For a list of your local participating records stores, click HERE.

Brokechella – April 19th

This is the 4th annual Brokechella, which first began as a show at a Venice coffee house, and later becoming the destination for many LA locals who wern’t heading to Indio.  Now located in a larger space in Downtown, this year’s event includes  four different stages with over 60 performers and comedians!  Food, art, vendors and more are also included in the only $20 admission!

HempCon Medical Marijuana Show – April 18th-20th

This event appeals to those who are, ahem, “herbal enthusiasts.” Located in San Bernardino, HempCon is a medical marjijuana trade show, which features exhibits and vendors promoting education about medical marijuana and presenting the latest in cannabis cultivation.
