As electronic dance music audiences continue to grow at an exponential rate, so do the venues needed to accommodate all of those dancing bodies.

For the 2013 festival, Coachella promoter Goldenvoice has increased the size of the festival’s famous Sahara dance tent to that exceeding a professional football field. According to insiders, the new 80-foot tall Sahara tent is a good 35 feet taller than previous years, with massive LED light fixtures hanging from the ceiling. The stage has also been super-sized with even more banks of LED lights, transforming the Sahara tent into a fully illuminated and awe-inspiring party palace. As seen in the photos below, the new larger, arched aluminum structure is said to measure a whopping 500’ x 200’ and will shield thousands more dance-crazed fans from the California desert’s searing sun. In years past, crowds at the tent would bulge out the sides, filling the area surrounding the tent with people hoping to just get close to the BPM-powered action.

Contrary to reports, the new Sahara is not a duplication of Ultra’s Mega stage, although the structures do bear a striking resemblance. While the Ultra stage has a multitude of light fixtures along the ceiling, the new Sahara tent focuses more LED action on the actual stage area itself.

The Sahara tent has been home to hundreds of artists over the years including Daft Punk, Madonna, David Guetta, Skrillex, Avicii, Kaskade and Calvin Harris.

2013 also sees the advent of the Yuma tent, a brand new dance area that boasts hardwood floors and even air conditioning.

Tune in and watch all of the action from Coachella via the special live webcast starting on Friday, April 12 and running through Sunday, April 14.
