Depeche Mode’s long-awaited return has kicked into high gear, with a Live on Letterman performance tonight (March 11) that will be webcast live from NYC’s Ed Sullivan Theater starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Radio.com. The webcast will be followed by the band’s performance on The Late Show with David Letterman tonight.
For those unable to catch Depeche Mode’s Live on Letterman during its initial airing, the entire performance will be repeated multiple times immediately following the live broadcast. Shortly thereafter, the set will be made available on-demand via VEVO.
Depeche Mode has also announced the dates for the North American leg of its 2013 tour, which will launch August 22 at Detroit’s DTE Energy Center and end October 8 in Phoenix, Arizona at the Phoenix Sky Pavilion. While those that pre-order Delta Machine on Amazon.com by April 1 will receive early access, tickets go on sale to the public on April 6 via Live Nation. The tour is in support of Delta Machine, Depeche Mode’s thirteenth studio album, which will be released March 26.
“I enjoy being in front of an audience because our songs really take on a life of their own when performed live,” the band’s Martin Gore said on Depeche Mode’s site. “When we’re performing, the stage almost becomes a mirror for the people who have been there since the beginning, and we become a reflection of our audience. I’m looking forward to this tour for that very reason.”
“I’m really looking forward to getting out there and performing,” added frontman Dave Gahan. “There are so many die hard Depeche Mode fans who have been with us every step of this journey that I can’t wait to see. I also hope that we gain some new fans with the release of Delta Machine, and I look forward to exposing them to a great Depeche Mode live performance.”
During a recent interview with KROQ’s Kevin & Bean, Gahan described the new album as soulful.
“It definitely has a lot of blues influences, I would say closer to what we were doing around the time of Songs of Faith & Devotion,” Gahan said, adding that the lyrics are in the vein of 1990′s Violator. “Martin’s come up with all these blues riffs.”
