Being labeled a “breakout alt-dance group” may be difficult for some, but for Los Angeles’ Capital Cities it’s a badge of honor.

The band will bring their positive vibes and vintage synthesizers to the Red Bull Sound Space this Thursday at 1p.m. PST / 4p.m. EST. With a mere 250 fans crammed into the tiny space, it’s sure to be a fun and intimate webcast. Watch the webcast here.

The band is doing their best to bring some ‘hope’ back to modern music with singles like their hit “Safe and Sound.” “In some ways ‘Safe and Sound’ is an antidote to the human tendency to think in apocalyptic terms,” explained Ryan Merchant, the band’s co-founder. “It seems like every generation feels like it’s living in the worst of times,” he continues. Merchant explained the single is designed to lift fans out of the doomsday mindset.

Although the Capital Cities may appear an overnight success, Merchant and Sebu Simonian have been in the music game since the ages of 10 and 12. The truly DIY band self-funded their music and touring until just recently when signed to Capitol Records. Merchant and Simonian flew around the globe; South America; Europe; anywhere they could find an audience, all on their dime.

Now, spins at major market radio stations like L.A.’s KROQ, San Francisco’s Live 105 and Las Vegas’ X1075 putting the band on the fast track to earning new fans.

Following Thursday’s performance, Capital Cities will hit the road for a 30 stop “Dancing with Strangers” tour in support of their self-titled EP on Capitol Records.
