Alex with Steve-O at Miss Double D-cember 2010
Yesterday afternoon a former KROQ Promotions Assistant, Alex Smollins, was killed when his motorcycle struck another vehicle in Santa Monica. He was 22 years young.
The Santa Monica Patch reports that “Smollins was eastbound on Pico when he struck a car driven by a 26-year-old Inglewood man, police said. The car had been northbound on 25th Street and turned left onto Pico after stopping at a stop sign when it was struck by the motorcycle, according to police.”
Alex left KROQ in 2011 to pursue other career options, and most recently found himself working at Sharkeez in Manhattan Beach. Born and raised in Culver City, Alex’s accident has left an impact on many in the local community, including a number of us here at the KROQ studios. After leaving KROQ, Alex continued his friendship with many of us, sharing drinks, laughs and good times throughout the years. He was well-liked by all and always seemed to have a positive outlook on life.
Our hearts go out to his friends, family and anyone affected by this tragic incident. Another good person lost too soon. Farewell buddy…
UPDATE: Earlier this afternoon, Stryker played a special tribute of Pennywise’s “Bro Hymn” in honor of Alex. Take a listen below.
