Garbage might be huge rockstars, but they’re the sort of people who don’t mind going out of their way to grab a girl some champagne. When Nicole Alvarez came in, she told the band she was working, but they wanted her to get in the holiday spirit, and the interview started with a festive cheers to the season.

Shirley Manson, who prowled and stomped across the stage last night in all her diva glory, met the band under equally as unique circumstances. Butch Vig said the band met Manson in a hotel.

“The meeting was great, actually, We spent a couple hours just talking. Drinking wine and coffee, whatever. That was all fine, but then she flew to Madison, and recforded a couple of demo ideas that we had, but it was not so good…She flew back to Scotland and said she sort of knew what she wanted to do with the songs. So, we recorded in Steve’s house. In his basement, ‘Queer’ and ‘Vow’ and some of the songs that are on the first record.”
