Youngblood Hawke Forms Eternal Bond, Plays Jokes On Passion Pit
The members of Youngblood told CBS Local the Brooklyn band was “the best group of guys,” “super funny,” and that touring with them was the most fun they’ve ever had on the road.
“You never know how it’s going to go, “Simon Katz said. “We’re all big fans of the band, so it was really kind of inspirational for us to go out there and play sold out shows every night and be so well received.”
Sam Martin agreed that Michael Angelakos and the rest of Passion Pit weren’t just awesome people, but great musicians too.
“It was like a four hour party every night,” he said. “We’d play and then watch them like ‘wow.’”
In fact, the singer says the two indie acts were more than just fast friends. They were kindred souls. “If we went to high school together, we would hang out,” he explained.
But don’t be fooled, the tour wasn’t a total love fest, there was definitely some healthy pranking going on. Some of which the band would rather not give the details of.
“You know they don’t need to be described,” guitarist Tasso Smith joked. “It was just a gesture of love we received from them so we gave them one back.”
Sam managed to clarify a little. “It was just like playing little jokes on each other,” he said. “Nothing bad.”
When it comes to who played the best prank on this past tour, that honor goes to the drummer of their fellow opening band Hollerado.
For one of the last shows, Jake Boyd of the Canadian rock group decided to dress up just like Passion Pit’s drummer, Nate Donmoyer.
While Nate is a bookish guy with glasses and a finely combed short hairstyle, Jake looked more like a cavemen. Sam was even fooled when he first saw Jake’s transformation.
“I remember walking up and saying, ‘Is that the drummer’s brother? Oh my God, that’s you!’”
It was such a good prank Alice Katz didn’t even realize it was one.
“He was doing that on purpose?”
