They were one of music’s most unexpected couples since pop queen Mandy Moore found true love with scruffy alt-rocker Ryan Adams. But unlike that still-happily married union, EDM mega-star Deadmau5’ improbable hook-up with sexy tattoo goddess Kat Von D has suddenly ended after only being together for only a couple of months.

It was mid-September when Deadmau5 (AKA Joel Zimmerman) shocked fans by confirming that he was not only dating but in love with the heavily-inked tattoo artist on Twitter. The declaration was followed by the pair spotted holding hands and being affectionate all over Los Angeles and the internet, even getting tattoos for each other. It went so far as Deadmau5 meeting Kat Von D’s dad and the two doing a magazine photo shoot together.

It all came to a screeching halt this past Saturday (November 10) when Von D took to her Twitter account to let the world know in no uncertain terms that the pair was dunzo with a flurry of messages.

For his part, Deadmau5 logged onto his own Twitter page to talk about the end of the relationship, with the first message so long he had to utilize his Facebook page to complete it.

In a further twist, it’s now being suggested that Von D dumping Deadmau5 is related to a suggestive tweet sent out by Dancing With the Stars contestant Chelsea Kane last week.

Von D (who has previously been romantically linked with UK rapper Scoobius Pip, motorcycle celebrity Jesse James and Motley Crue rocker Nikki Sixx) replied to Kane directly on Twitter about the message, venting her displeasure with a terse and profane response.

Deadmau5 was recently booked to headline a new EDM festival called Audible in El Paso, TX on December 29, and will end 2012 with a New Year’s Eve gig in his hometown of Niagara Falls.
