Fletcher Dragge and Jim Lindberg made a surprise visit to The Kevin & Bean Show to announce the band’s reuniting and a celebratory show in January.

“We’re happy to announce that Jim is rejoining Pennywise and we’re all looking forward to playing music together again.  We’re going to celebrate our re-union with a show at the Hollywood Palladium, January 18th to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Pennywise for our friends and fans in L.A.”

In his interview this morning, Lindberg said that being back in the KROQ studios “made him feel like “someone who took an Ambien has now found themselves down by the lake and they don’t know how they got there.”

“I don’t know how I got back into this room but I guess Fletcher can tell us how I got back here.” Dragge went on to tell a story about how after reminiscing and a “little self introspection” he called Lindberg up while he was at a bachelor party. Lindberg had apparently erased Dragge’s number and wasn’t expecting to talk to him ever again; the pair hadn’t spoken in two years even though at one point Lindberg called Dragge thirty-seven times.

Pennywise fans were stunned when signer/guitarist Jim Lindberg, the band’s founding frontman, declared he was leaving to pursue other interests.

In 2009, Lindberg issued a statement thanking fans for their support saying, “After 20 years, nine albums and thousands of shows around the world, my time in Pennywise has come to an end. Being the singer for this band has been an amazing experience, and along the way we made some of the best fans anyone could ask for.”

Despite feelings that Lindberg had left them high-and-dry, the band issued a supportive response. “Pennywise has long stood behind the motto that you should always follow your heart and pursue what makes you happy, and we wish Jim the best of luck in his new ventures.” However, according to this morning’s interview with Kevin & Bean, the band was actually mad about being “abandoned” by Lindberg, despite the singer trying to be as supportive and helpful as possible.

When he first broke the news that he wanted to go seperate ways to the band, he took them out to breakfast and had “an adult conversation” with them. “I kind of wanted it to go well, but wasn’t that surprised when it didn’t go that well,” explained Lindberg. “So when we had this talk, we talked a lot about us both having a lot of different pressures and dealing with stuff that happened with Jason and our feelings of guilt  over that, but we probably need Dr. Drew for the rest of this conversation.”

While Pennywise went on to court Zoli Teglas from Orange County, CA hardcore band Ignite, Lindberg delivered a surprising blow to the band when it was announced he’d formed a new band, The Black Pacific. His new band went on to release a debut album in 2010 followed by a national tour.

Meanwhile, Pennywise moved forward with Teglas and released their tenth studio album, All Or Nothing.

During a January, 2012 performance in Germany, Teglas injured his back, sending the singer to the hospital for emergency surgery. Unfortunately, Teglas’ healing would last longer than expected, forcing the band to cancel all touring activity through the end of 2012. According to Dragge and Lindberg, Teglas wanted out of the band for awhile. Apparently he’d even been calling Lindberg and begging him to come back to the band.

“He’s actually happy. He’s happy to get the hell out of here,” laughed Dragge. “Jim told me he was calling and saying, ‘Hurry up and come back man.’”
