With the Foo Fighters on hiatus, Dave Grohl has refocused his energy and enthusiasm on Sound City, a documentary paying homage to one of modern music’s most legendary studios and the albums recorded there. Some of the timeless recordings include Nirvana’s Nevermind, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ Damn the Torpedoes, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours and Rage Against The Machine‘s self-titled debut.

In Grohl’s latest teaser from the film, Rage Against The Machine’s Tim Commerford explains how he fell in love with music. The bass player starts by explaining that his sister and husband bought him a record player and all the KISS records resulting in instant fandom. I dug Gene Simmons, ultimately the guy that was breathing fire and spitting blood.”

Influenced by his older sister, Commerford then moved on to punk rock. As fifth-grader, he found The Sex Pistols. “It went from Gene Simmons to Sid Viscous.” The band changed everything for the budding music fan. “The Nevermind The Bullocks album is what ultimately drove me to want to learn how to play bass.” Commerford fondly recalls a wall in his room; a shrine to Sid Vicious, “It was just covered with anything Sex Pistols.”

Commerford, who also serves as the band’s back-up vocalist, reveals, “I love to do karaoke. I love it. I do the Sex Pistols and it’s like bar none. Bar none,” he repeats for effect. I’ll get comments from women, ‘I think you could have a career in music.’”

Dave Grohl has yet to disclose a release date for Sound City.
