Green Day has just issued a press release notifying fans of their latest cancellation. The band will not appear this month at the New Orleans’ Voodoo Festival. The concert would have been the band’s first festival show touring ¡Uno!, the new album.
“Canceling shows is something we rarely do,” said Tré Cool. “We never want to let our fans down, and we are grateful for all of you being understanding during this time.”
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong checked himself into rehab following a “meltdown” at a Las Vegas music festival.
In an interview earlier today with BBC One radio host Zane Lowe, bass player Mike Dirnt commented that the band had cancelled all appearances and official band activities over the coming few weeks saying, “we had to put the life of our friend in front of everything.”
Dirnt, looking back at the pressures of releasing an album trilogy explained, “Hindsight is 20/20. It was a tremendous undertaking. It catches up with you a little bit. We definitely jumped off a moving train.” And speaking of that moving train, the bass player adds, “There were signs of things hitting the fan, we hadn’t slept in forever.”
Green Days ¡Dos! hits stores November 13 with ¡Tré! following January 15, 2013
