Dave Grohl Officially Announces Foo Fighters Hiatus

With rumors swirling about the state of the Foo Fighters after Dave Grohl’s cryptic sign-off at the end of their set at last weekend’s Global Citizen Fest, Grohl has taken to the band’s Facebook page to set the record straight.

“Dave here. Just wanted to write and thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for another incredible year. (Our 18th, to be exact!),” Grohl wrote. “We truly never could have done any of this without you…

“Yes… I was serious. I’m not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again,” he says later on in the letter regarding the band’s hiatus. “It feels strange to say that, but it’s a good thing for all of us to go away for a while. It’s one of the reasons we’re still here. Make sense? I never want to NOT be in this band. So, sometimes it’s good to just… put it back in the garage for a while…”

Grohl goes on to say that he’ll be concentrating on Sound City, a documentary film about the legendary California recording studio of the same name. It’s where such classic albums as Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Damn the Torpedoes and Rage Against the Machine’s eponymous debut were all recorded. Grohl adds in the letter that the film “could be the biggest, most important project I’ve ever worked on.”

Grohl has released a series of teasers for the film starring various luminaries who’ve recorded at Sound City, including Trent Reznor, Lars Ulrich and Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk.
