You’d think they knew better, but even big rock bands read their show reviews. In a recent interview with Kevin & Bean, The Killers’ Brandon Flowers confessed that he felt a little defensive over a review they got from their “fantastic gig in Toronto the other night” that was full of “elation” and “so much fun.”

“I saw a review and they called it a nostalgic gig because of how well our old songs went,” explained the frontman. “They were trying to say that we were becoming a nostalgic act and the new songs were received kind of lukewarm. So, I just thought, ‘The album came out two days before this gig. When we first played ‘Mr. Brightside’ to people, or whatever maybe it was ‘When You Were Young…’ it was crickets. And so, it’s just so silly.”

Drummer Ronnie Vannucci later went on to say that the “songs evolve” over the course of time. Earlier in the interview, the pair had lambasted young artists that claim to write fifty songs.

“I think it’s suspect when I hear a band writes fifty songs,” said Flowers. “It’s difficult to write fifty songs and finish the lyrics. Maybe they had fifty ideas and they just tell you fifty songs.”
