Electric Daisy Carnival Recap Video – Neon Bikinis, Circus Clowns, David Guetta Battle High Winds

Electronic dance music has been around since the early 1980s. But it wasn’t until a few British purveyors of big beats set up shop in Los Angeles in the early 90’s that the scene actually carved out its permanent place in American pop culture.

From the ashes of raves like Grape Ape, Nocturnal and Dreamscape and after hours clubs like Flammable Liquid rose a bigger and more public movement. In the late 90s Insomniac Events’ founder Pasquale Rotella seized the opportunity to harness the power of the rag-tag group of weekly clubs to create an annual iconic event celebrating all things electronic. The Electric Daisy Carnival was born. While many other raves came and went, “EDC” successfully, although not without some pain, navigated the dicey landscape of legal issues, largely due to drug issues.

What started out as a single day festival grew to a two day event with 130,000 in 2009. Clocking in at over 240,000 attendees, 2012’s event held at the Las Vegas Motor speedway was by far the largest dance festival in the U.S. Among the top name DJs were David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, Afrojack, Avicci, and Tiesto.

The next EDC date, scheduled for August 18th in Puerto Rico was recently canceled due to a local political, which falls during the original date. According to Insomniac, “The first phase of a local Referendum for Statehood is being held in Puerto Rico this summer, which results in the territory being “dry” or alcohol-free on the original August date we had chosen.”

The date and location for the 2013 EDC has not been released.
