Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final is tonight, and it could very well end with your Los Angeles Kings hoisting the coveted Cup!
Throughout the post-season, the city has been abuzz with excitement over the Kings’ dominance, and their adopted anthem, “This Is LA” by The Briggs, has been one the most requested songs on KROQ lately. The native LA band has been around for over 10 years; gaining popularity through touring with bands like Bad Religion and Flogging Molly.
The Briggs’ founding members Joey and Jason LaRocca stopped by to chat with Kevin & Bean about how the song became the theme song for the Kings, and the band performed the song live in-studio!
“This Is LA” wasn’t originally meant to be a sports anthem, but actually an homage to Los Angeles after the band joked that the only tribute to LA “was by Randy Newman”.
Fox Sports West then started using the song for some of their commercials, and then the song caught the Kings’ attention, getting played at games ever since. The band has been able to perform the song live at a couple of Kings games, starting with the playoffs two years ago.
In celebration of Game 4 tonight, the Briggs will be playing a couple of shows:
4pm: @ ESPN Zone at LA Live
Post-Game: @ The Down and Out (501 S Spring St., Los Angeles, CA 90013)
