Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee Buys New Fisker Hybrid Supercar, “That’s Sex Dude!”
Every once in a while, Southern Californians, specifically in the Orange County area, catch a fleeting glimpse of a Fisker Karma being shipped off to a new home. Automotive geeks weave through lanes just to drive next one for a few moments.
The Fisker Karma has been crowned Luxury Car of the Year‘ by BBC’s Top Gear magazine as well as Car of the Year by Top Gear TV.
Fisker was founded in 2007 by Henrik Fisker and Bernhard Koehler, two automotive industry vets that believed they could make a sexier hybrid. Fisker, who designed the BMW Z8, Aston Martin DB9 was not only up for the task but coined a new term for their project, “Uncompromised Responsible Luxury.” The Fisker Karma is able to travel up to 50 miles on a single charge and boasts emissions lower than a Toyota Prius.
This Saturday, the Mötley Crüe drummer’s new toy was hand delivered to his Calabasas, California home. Tommy Lee’s silver sedan purred as it rolled up his driveway.
Standard features on the Fisker Karma include, solar cell roof, regenerative braking, electric motors, plug-in recharging, extended driving range, single speed transmission, reclaimed, recycled and reusable materials throughout the interior cabin as well as eco-sourced leather or animal-free fabrics.
According to Car & Driver the $100,000 sports car is full is technology, “Up front there’s a 260-hp, GM-supplied four-cylinder engine spinning a mighty generator. Next in line is a 20-kWh, American-made lithium-ion battery pack. Twin AC motors straddling the rear axle deliver 402 horsepower to the differential. The propulsion system, the Brembo brakes, the 22-inch cast aluminum wheels, and the aluminum suspension components are supported by an aluminum space frame stitched together with 260 feet of welds and a thousand or so rivets. The Karma’s aluminum skin is finished with a solar-cell roof, a composite deck lid, and plastic bumpers.”
Early this month, Tommy Lee squeezed a helmet onto his dome and strapped himself into Ken Block’s infamous Ford drift car. Block is one of, it not the best known and most talented rally drivers racing today. The two made a deal; Tommy would ride shotgun in Ken’s car then Ken would would ride along in Tommy’s somersaulting roller coaster-like drums set.
Mötley Crüe is preparing to hit the road this summer for a dozen festival shows before teaming with KISS on a worldwide tour simply titled “The Tour 2012.” Tickets are available now via Livenation.
