World-famous Grammy-award nominated producer Nigel Godrich–who has produced for artists like Beck, Paul McCartney, and most notably, Radiohead–has announced that he is starting another band called Ultraísta with Atoms for Peace drummer Joey Waronker and a London artist named Laura Bettinson.
Although there is only one track out called “Smalltalk,” Ultraísta has a similar, albeit more minimalist experimental electronic quality to that which Godrich helped Radiohead first harness on recordings like 1997′s OK Computer.
“Nigel is a challenge, ” vocalist Bettison said in an interview with eGigs.”He pushes very hard and harder until he gets the results he wants.”
Godrich, who was a co-producer on Radiohead’s esoteric eighth album, King of Limbs, might have been partly responsible for what Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke described as the album’s “alienating” quality.
“It was amazing just to put the record out like that,” continued Yorke. “But then it didn’t feel like it really existed…But that was the consequence of what we chose to do. You can either get upset about it, or say, “well, that’s not good enough.”
