Earlier in April, Rancid’s Tim Armstrong released 14 all-new songs from “different Rock’N'Roll Theater” episodes that he’d been working on with Rancid bandmate Lars Frederikson. Armstrong said he’d be “stoked” if fans forked over five dollars instead of “file sharing” because “Rock ‘N Roll Theater is 100%” DIY. Today Armstrong released another song from the batch called, fittingly, “Oh Hollywood.”
Armstrong– a punk pioneer, label owner, and A-list producer–just got back from playing two shows at Coachella with reggae legend Jimmy Cliff whom Armstrong is credited for re-introducing to younger crowds by producing Cliff’s album Sacred Fire.
At Cliff’s Coachella début, he played “The Harder They Come,” “Many Rivers To Cross,” and new songs from Sacred Fire with Armstrong.
“I left the stage, and they were still singing ‘One More.’ I love it,” Cliff divulged in an interview after his Coachella show. “One young girl came up to me tonight with about five albums she asked me to sign.”
“She said, ‘My parents were listening to this and they brought me up on this.’ They grew up on the albums. That happens a lot. You see all ages, and I love that.”
