The Red Hot Chili Peppers are slated for induction into Cleveland’s Rock And Roll Hall of Fame by comedian Chris Rock on April 14th.
“He (John Frusciante) didn’t feel comfortable coming, which we totally respect,” said drummer Chad Smith to Billboard after he was asked if Frusciante would join. “We asked him. He said, ‘I’m just not really comfortable with that, but good luck and thanks for inviting me.’ It was all good. He’s the kind of guy, I think, that once he’s finished with something he’s just on to the next phase of his life. The Chili Peppers are not really on his radar right now.”
Although Frusciante allegedly won’t join them for the ceremony, Smith said that the band are trying to recruit another band member–at least for a select few of their UK shows.
“Jimmy Page has come to our shows before but we haven’t had a chance to play with him,” said Smith in an interview. “That would be really cool, so maybe that can happen. Maybe we can get Page to come out to Knebworth. I saw him come on with Foo Fighters at Wembley.”
