Dave Gahan’s libidinous croon is most infamous in his fronting of Depeche Mode, but his vocals sound good everywhere–including on his latest contribution to Soulsavers’ new single, “Longest Day.”

Gahan’s voice is layered over the downtempo electronica band’s signature sound throughout the Soulsavers’ fourth album, The Light The Dead See, which is released on May 21.

And he’s not the only member of Depeche Mode trying their hand at electronica contributions before the band heads into the studio to work on music together. Bandmate Martin Gore also collaborated with Erasure’s Vince Clarke for a techno project called VCMG.

In an interview with KROQ, Gahan’s bandmate, Martin Gore, said that working on his techno side-project, VCMG, has helped him write new Depeche Mode songs with a sense of invigoration and that Depeche Mode is “set to start in the studio at the end of March.”

“The good thing about doing this side project was it was really fun and it also kept me away from doing what I normally do for quite a period of time,” explained Gore. “So when I went back to writing normal songs, I went back with more energy and more enthusiasm and creativity.”

“Technology has just changed so much,” said Gore. “It was a feat just to get a drum machine just to run in time with a sequencer back when we started.”
