Each week the KROQ Promo Crew will be showcasing local businesses like record stores, music venues, tattoo shops, and other great spots in SoCal.

If you’re looking for a good record store in the Valley, then check out Atomic Records in Burbank.

This record shop has an ever-changing selection of used vinyl, DVDs, and CDs. We spoke to owner Rick Apler for a quick minute, and he told us that new music comes in everyday. When asked how many records they have in-store, he said, “there are thousands, maybe around thirty thousand with tons more in storage.” These guys mean business, you might even want to call them record specialists.

It’s been well over a decade since Atomic Records opened its doors. Atomic use to be a high-end collectible vinyl store back in the day, most of the stuff on the walls weren’t cheap. Now they sell used CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray’s, VHS tapes, and of course vinyl records – all at a very affordable price. LA Weekly ranked it last year as “the best record store for actual records.”

When you walk in, you’ll notice a large room with weathered brick walls and a painted cement floor. There are only a few isles but you can easily spend a couple hours there. You don’t want to miss their bargain bins near the entrance. Bargain vinyls are 50¢ each while bargain CDs sell for 99¢.

Before leaving we asked Rick a few more questions, like how did they get such an awesome inventory? He explained that people come in and sell their old stockpiles of music, as well as him and his partner sometimes go out and scout good record collections.

If you’re looking for a music shop and want a more low-key shopping experience with lots of great surprises, head over to Atomic Records and start flippin’ through. You won’t leave there without buying something.
