One of the best." credit="Tim Armstrong on Johnny Cash"]Few punk front men are known for their unique singing style more than Tim Armstrong. To many, Rancid is the modern day Sex Pistols. The band has lived every song and every lyric. Nothing is posed or embellished. It’s with that credibility that Rancid continue to attract young fans.

Recently, Tim stopped by the Guitar Center’s famous Hollywood Blvd. location to perform two Rancid songs and a very special cover of Mr. Cash’s “Big River.” Although Armstrong’s rendition appears to be effortless, he’s able to channel Cash’s original passion and grit in his own way.

“I love Johnny Cash, I like his music, I like his story telling. He’s a great lyricist.  His lyrics are like high art, you know what I mean? One of the best.”

“East Bay Night is a song about a typical night in the East Bay (Berkeley, CA area)… Talk about looking at Alcatraz, goin’ to prison. Talking about my mom, hanging out on her front porch. One of my favorite songs Rancid’s done. It’s fun to play.”

“It’s Quiet Alright,” they way I play it acoustically, it’s kinda got a folk vibe. although it’s a punk rock song.

For Tim Armstrong devotees, his Signature Series Fender and Gretsch guitars are now available at Guitar Center.
