The Music Box At The Fonda Closes Its Doors

[pullquote quote=”At this time, it is our understanding that the closing of The Music Box is a short term closure, please be patient with us as we work out the details as they pertain to our previously scheduled shows.” credit=”Goldenvoice”]UPDATE: According to a press release from Goldenvoice, this is only a short-term closure.

It’s a sad day for Los Angeles music fans and citizens alike. Laslush is reporting that the Music Box has unexpectedly closed its doors indefinitely. A sign posted on the door reads “closed for inventory” while workers inside are disassembling the sound system.

Unlike many venues where the decline is evident and closure is expected, the Music Box seemed to doing well since its remodeling. Recent shows include [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Morrissey [/lastfm]and[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Angels & Airwaves[/lastfm]. And doesn’t it seem like yesterday that [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Social Distortion[/lastfm] and KROQ World Premiered Social’s D then new video, “Machine Gun Blues?”

Laslush’s sources claim that disputes between the owners and the landlord led to the sudden closure and eviction. Hopefully, new owners can be found and the Music Box will rise again sooner rather than later.

We’ll keep you posted on details as we hear them. In the meantime, reminisce with us to an April evening when Social Distortion and KROQ took over the landmark Hollywood venue.

So if I have tickets to the Angels and Airwaves show what does that mean? Ticketmaster is still selling tickets but according to the AvA website the show is “sold out” and there’s no mention of the show being cancelled or moved to a new venue.

The sound in this place sucked anyways. K.D. probably laundered the profits.

  2. I do indeed hope that the Fonda does not lose it’s charm if/when they reopen. In a day and age when Los Angeles is being choked to death by stale corporate fan-unfriendly venues like Club Nokia and House of Blues, The Music Box is always a pleasure to attend. Fingers crossed they can reopen soon.

  3. When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four e-mails with the same comment. Is there any way you are able to remove individuals from that service? Numerous thanks!
