Grinderman, the group formed in 2006 by former members of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, apparently called it quits at a show in their native Australia on Sunday.
Nick Cave declared on stage “That’s it for Grinderman. It’s over” – bringing to an end a fairly short stint that included two albums.
In light of the recent split, Last.fm Trends looks at the band’s scrobbles.
Grinderman appeared at the top of the Last.fm Hype Chart way back in September 2010 with the release of Grinderman 2, an album which has been scrobbled 1,041,745 times.
The garage rockers have been scrobbled a total of 3,674,466 times since their inception, with “Palaces Of Montezuma”, from Grinderman 2, being their most popular track with 145,842 scrobbles.
Despite this, Grinderman 2 hasn’t been able to overcome the popularity seen in debut album Grinderman, which has been scrobbled 1,826,213 times (not much more than Grinderman 2 considering it being released three and a half years earlier).
Their scrobbles over the last twelve months have seen a gradual decline, dropping from 30,000 weekly scrobbles to around 12,000. However it’s a possibility that this will soon rise again as fans start to hear of the news of the split.
