Elliott Smith had a gift for connecting with people. He sang from the soul, uncovering a sound that originated from an internal space few people are capable or willing to find. While the tragedy of his death still stings for his devout fans, Smith’s music is still very much alive. Eight years after the singer/songwriter’s death, a song titled “Misery Let Me Down” has leaked online within the past week, which was recorded as a warm-up before a radio show in 1997.

In other news related to Smith, an independent filmmaker is currently working on a documentary film, which outlines the artist’s life and the impact his music had on millions of fans.  However, the pending documentary, titled Heaven Adores You (An Elliott Smith Project), is in need of monetary support in order to come to fruition. As of November 22, the film is roughly $8,000 short of its goal with 21 days remaining before a deadline.

“Heaven Adores You” is an intimate and meditative look at the influence that Elliott Smith has had since his tragic passing in 2003.  By threading together musical performances of those influenced by the music of Elliott Smith, through the lush and often isolating images of the three major cites he lived in throughout his short life (Portland, New York, and Los Angeles), this film will go beyond your average “behind the music” documentary by offering a visual journey and an intimate look at the singer’s prolific songwriting, and the impact that he had on his fans and other musicians today.  This project aims to be a celebration of Elliott Smith, his contributions to the music industry and exploration of his posthumous influence on the artistic endeavors of those within the global community.”
