With KROQ’s sold out Weenie Roast less than 3 weeks away I thought it’d be fun to start featuring some of our Weenie Roast 2011 artists. Today’s featured artist is [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]CAGE THE ELEPHANT[/lastfm].
Fresh off of Coachella and Radio One’s Big Weekend festivals, Cage the Elephant are known for their impressive live shows. I was able to see them a few years back and was told beforehand that the show was going to be amazing. What I was not told, and what I will pass onto you, is that one should always have an extra beverage on hand while checking out a Cage the Elephant show, and here’s why…
In my case, it wasn’t until I was dodging lead singer, Matt Shultz, as he propelled himself through the audience in hopes of finding a fan with a fresh cup of beer that I realized another snack bar run was in order. Let’s be honest, the man was thirsty, and, really, who could blame him? He’d been running back and forth across the stage for a solid hour, catapulting himself into the crowd and getting right back on stage to do it all over again.
At some point his thirst got the best of him and apparently Cage’s roadies hadn’t placed enough cold drinks in arm’s reach, so Mr. Shultz took things into his own hands…he leapt into the crowd, ran through the venue and found a fan who gladly handed over his beer. Mr. Shultz took a gulp, handed it right back to the fan and sprinted right back to the stage in time to sing the next line of the song. It was an awesome spectacle to witness, and if it happens at this year’s Weenie Roast don’t say I didn’t warn you to have extra beverages on hand should the need arise.
Catch Cage the Elephant at KROQ’s Weenie Roast, Saturday, June 4th.
In the meantime, enjoy this clip of Cage performing “Shake Me Down” at KROQ’s Coachella House last month.
