Whether it’s music, spoken word, off-road tattooing with the Jackass boys, or playing with snakes, if [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Henry Rollins[/lastfm] is involved, I’m in!
Snake Underworld on Nat Geo Wild is Rollins’ latest project. So many are terrified by the slithery critters, but Rollins’ has always been fascinated by them. He called up Kevin & Bean this morning to talk about the show.

Like many young boys growing up, Rollins was always wanting to find things that made the girls squirm. Snakes were at the top of that list. He had always found snakes to be interesting, and fortunate enough for him, there was a pet shop in his neighborhood that had snakes, so he got a job there.

As a high-schooler, he was dealing with snakes all the time, and has maintained interest in the serpents. Having previously worked with Nat Geo, Rollins was having a conversation with his boss there, when a guy from Nat Geo Wild came in and presented an opportunity to host this Snake Underworld special, and Rollins was more than happy to do so.
It was very much a “right place, right time” kind of deal.

The show is part of Wild About Snakes week, and in Snake Underworld, Rollins hangs out with a bunch of Americans who keep snakes, both legally and illegally and explore the “why” behind the interest.
“I think snakes tap into a real primordial fear that some people have. For some people, that fear is a fascination.”
Snake Underworld airs this Friday night at 7pm on Nat Geo Wild. Check your local listing for more details.
