It seems fitting that since your flashback yesterday was from The Tom Tom Club today should be something from that band’s root system – but, wow, which Talking Heads song to play?
Clearly, one of the most ‘important’ (if you will) and best bands to ever play whatever their music was being called that week – let’s say modern rock? There are the obvious choices – ‘Burning Down The House’, ‘Once in A Lifetime’ and what I think was their biggest hit (I don’t feel like doing the math) ‘And She Was’ (which, actually, was my least favorite of their songs). Then there’s the amazing cover of ‘Take Me To The River’ and the always relevant ‘Life During War Time’ and ‘Wild Wild Life’.
You were a true KROQ fan back in the 90’s if you remember how much we used to play ‘Stay Up Late’ and even more so if ‘Psycho Killer’ popped first into your head. My favorite ‘Artists Only’ never really got any official airtime as far as I know, so I shan’t play that one.
Ultimately, I decided to ask the former APD over at GROOVE Radio what her favorite Heads song is since she’s A-1 Super Fanatcial about them (and a dang cool chick) and at first she said ‘Nothing But Flowers’ (which I recall playing quite a bit on the Roq when she was at the on-again, off-again 103.1 FM dial position) but then suddenly she went with ‘Sax & Violins’ from the frightfully entertaining movie ‘Until The End of The World’. Good stuff, my friend!
Oh – and maybe next time I’ll play ‘Road to Nowhere’ which we used to HAMMER here – where oh where has that song gone? Nowhere, I ‘spose…
