Last.fm Trends: Is Arcade Fire Heating Up?
The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards saw Canadian indie group Arcade Fire take the Album Of The Year award, causing widespread confusion across many music circles asking the simple question – Who Is Arcade Fire??!!?
The win has caused some reaction across the industry as well, with one music executive slamming the Grammys for awarding Arcade Fire over Eminem and Justin Bieber (read on Billboard) – causing Arcade Fire’s manager to respond in defense of the band’s triumph.
So what has the win done for Arcade Fire’s listener reach?
Well, a lot. The Suburbs had been hovering around the 37,000 weekly listeners mark leading up to the awards but the week post-Grammys saw the band rack up a huge 57,781 listeners – a 21,569 increase on the previous week.
The band’s most popular tracks, such as “Ready To Start” and “The Suburbs” took in 19,735 and 19,028 respective listeners prior to the awards, jumping to 38,766 and 37,240 listeners after the award swoop.
With a large portion of these sure to be the curious type wanting to find out just who Arcade Fire are, it will be interesting to see just how many of the band’s new listeners are converted into regular listeners. Last.fm Trends will be sure to keep an eye on it.
