Twenty eight years ago today, in a little club in Manchester, a band that would change the face of pop music took to the stage for the first ever time.
Despite only releasing four albums in their career, The Smiths made a huge impact on music, influencing every movement from post-punk to emo over the last three decades.
Now officially older than most of their fans, we take a look at what you’ve been playing.
Powerhouse album The Queen Is Dead is way ahead of the rest, with 8,202,748 plays from 397,739 listeners, almost double the numbers that any of their other records have seen.
Of course, given that it holds “Bigmouth Strikes Again,” “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out” and “The Boy With The Thorn In His Side” in its ten track set it’s perhaps no surprise that it holds such a sway over fans.
