[lastfm]U2[/lastfm]‘s website reported today that lead singer, Bono, has undergone emergency back surgery. The surgery comes as a result of an injury the singer suffered during tour preparation. The operation on Bono’s back has already caused dates for the U2 360 Tour to be postponed.

More details after the jump.

Bono will spend the next few days in a hospital in Munich, Germany after which he will return home to rest and recuperate.

So far the only date postponed on the U2 360 Tour is the first date, June 3 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Salt Lake Tribune has confirmed this date has been cancelled but will be rescheduled. According to the Tribune, fans who had tickets to this show should hold on to their tickets and await further instruction.

The next scheduled show, according to Pollstar.com, is June 6th at Angels Stadium. Will our home town show be cancelled? We hope not.

More details have been promised per U2.com once Bono’s condition has been assessed further.

U2.com has band manager Paul McGuinness stating that the band has definitely postponed Salt Lake. Although no other postponements have been announced, McGuinness said “tour dates,” not “tour date” in relation to postponements. I would guess we’ll have the Anaheim concerts put off until late July.
Bono’s had a bad back for a while now, even slowing the recording of How To Dismantle… a few years back.
    Get well soon Bono!

Although U2 hasn’t broken up, I still sense that Kevin Ryder is somehow responsible!
